The Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, in collaboration with the Società di Esecutori di Pie Disposizioni in Siena- E.T.S., offers a series of guided tours dedicated to the discovery of the fresco cycle of the Thebaid, recently restored and returned to the public. The appointments are scheduled for 21 March, 18 April and 30 May at 11:00.
Because of the rarity of the subject and the extraordinary technical quality of the scenes, these frescoes by Lippo Vanni represent an absolute masterpiece of the Sienese Trecento and one of the most important rediscoveries of recent decades.
The recent conservation intervention has restored to full legibility an important pictorial complex that decorates the access room of the ancient Compagnia dei Disciplinati, today the historic headquarters of the Società di Esecutori di Pie Disposizioni, which promoted and carried out the restoration.
The guided tours will offer the opportunity to explore the history of the rediscovery of the frescoes and the different phases of the recent restoration intervention.
