The “arliquiera”, a reliquary cabinet about two meters high, was made by Lorenzo di Pietro known as Il Vecchietta in 1445, intended for the sacristy adjacent to the hospital church.
The "arliquiera" had two large panels divided into compartments, today the only element of the work that remains. The two panels were entirely painted by Il Vecchietta, who depicted on the inside the Stories of the Passion of Christ, while on the outside the Sienese saints and blesseds on a damascened gold background. The inner side with the Stories of the Passion, arranged in eight panels, is a clear reference to the most precious relic that the cabinet contained: the sacred nail of the Cross. In sequence, after the Last Supper, are the Washing of the Feet, the Kiss of Judas, Christ before Caiaphas, Christ before Herod, the Flagellation, Christ mocked and the Ascent to Calvary. The outer side, instead, is divided into twelve compartments in which the local saints and blesseds are depicted: Saint Ansano, Saint Vittore, Saint Savino and Saint Crescenzio, the blessed Ambrogio Sansedoni flanked by Saint Bernardino and the blessed Agostino Novello; followed by Andrea Gallerani, Saint Catherine kneeling before the crucifix, Pier Pettinaio, the blessed Sorore and Saint Galgano. All these figures are connected to the stories and events of the hospital and of the confraternal companies that had established themselves within it. Above these depictions, in the arch, one can see the Announcing Angel, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and the Virgin of the Annunciation to whom the church is dedicated.
